The owners have carefully built three, affectionately named, Little Lodges in the grounds of their Victorian gatehouse Swanton Lodge - which rests on a corner of Bylaugh Park estate. Beautifully finished, they provide peaceful accommodation in the heart of rural Norfolk, allowing visitors to enjoy complete tranquillity amid this beautiful unspoilt countryside. Wildlife is abundant here. All of Norfolk’s best beaches are within easy reach. No light pollution ensures complete appreciation of clear night skies.
The double doors from the sitting rooms open onto terraces facing the gardens and woods which overlook Worthing Lakes – splendid fishing lakes, nature reserve and wetlands created from a former quarry. For anyone with an interest in fishing, this location is superb with free river fishing in the Wensum (across the road from the owners Lodge) and extensive angling on nearby lakes. (Please see our website for more information on fishing).
Bylaugh Hall has a restaurant and bar. A 3 minute drive will take you to Swanton Morley (1½ miles) where you can sample real ales and excellent fare at Darby’s, a traditional family pub owned by a local farmer. The village also boasts a Medieval church, a high class butcher/delicatessen, village store and the Mill Bakery. East Dereham (5 miles) has many independent local shops & supermarkets, churches, a quaint museum, plus traditional and farmers markets. The Mid-Norfolk heritage railway links the historic towns of Dereham and Wymondham.
Also close by is Foxley Wood which is the largest remaining block of ancient woodland in Norfolk supporting a huge diversity of wildlife, much of it quite rare. It is a most beautiful spot. This is a must for cyclists and walkers who will be spoilt by the immense choice of country roads, treks and tracks. Other local attractions include Gressenhall Museum of Rural Life, which also houses Roots of Norfolk providing visitors with vivid experiences of bygone years. The Little Lodges provide an excellent base for visiting splendid country estates such as Sandringham, Blickling, Holkham, Oxburgh & Felbrigg. Check out their web sites for some truly outstanding events. Little Lodges provides easy access to the the Norfolk Showground on the A47. All this and, Norwich too (one castle and two cathedrals) is only 15 miles away! Or, simply stay here, unwind, and enjoy the delightful countryside Little Lodges nestle within.
